Introduction

The Fire Risk Management Team (FRMT) is responsible for ensuring that the Parliamentary Estate complies with fire safety legislation and is responsible for ensuring its occupants are safe in the event of a fire. This includes involvement in fire safety design and prevention for all premises and occupants.

The Role

The role of the Compliance Officer is to support the Deputy Head of Fire Safety in the execution of Parliamentary Estate fire risk assessments and follow up actions, design, development and management of fire risk management team processes procedures and documentation.

The Compliance Officer will review and manage all fire safety documentation that supports fire risk assessment and building inspection. Conduct critical assessment of policies, plans strategies and reports ensuring they comply with BS9997, British Standards, and Departmental and House procedures. You will also assist with the fire risk assessment and audit of premises including checking maintenance provision and audit of routine inspections carried out by the fire protection team. Lead the development of an in-house Fire Risk Management solution for controlling and disseminating fire safety information and fire risk assessments.

Some of the responsibilities for this role include:

• Ensure periodical fire inspections and risk assessments are planned and implemented.
• Carry out fire risk assessments, reviews, and inspections
• Monitor records for all fire related maintenance contracts ensuring they are compliant and quality assured.
• Maintain a programme of planned fire evacuations for all buildings on the Parliamentary Estate.
• Representing the Fire Risk Management Team professionally at appropriate meetings to provide advice on the relevant procedures and interventions as determined by the Head of Fire Safety.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

• Previous fire safety experience in a fire safety organisation or department, with evidence of assisting in the planning of fire prevention, protection and intervention, fire training and education, and carrying out fire risk assessments
• A thorough knowledge and understanding of fire legislation, practices and methods of implementation.
• Able to demonstrate an awareness of the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion at work and a commitment to their implementation, both in the workplace and in providing a service to the wider community
• Strong written and oral communications skills with the ability to produce reports and have the ability to determine solutions and mitigate risks.
• Good interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with key customers, stakeholders, and colleagues at all levels. The ability to challenge appropriately and robustly to ensure adherence to procedures
