WHAT YOU’LL DO

This is where it all begins. We develop the new concepts that go on to become new Jaguars and Land Rovers. So, the emphasis is on building strong strategic, technical and financial foundations right from the start.

The instrumentation applications team supports the Jaguar Land Rover engineering community in providing expert knowledge of data acquisition installations and measurement techniques.

The role within the team at Pilot Plant is to install sensors and equipment during the build of the late prototype phase vehicles to enable testing and development of our future vehicles. This work is a key contribution to the delivery of our exceptional products.

There is plenty of variety in the role and you could be installing measurements for temperature, pressure, displacement, voltage, current, flow and speed as well as the associated data acquisition systems and interfaces. Digital measures for the vehicle networks are also an important part of our work.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

• Preparation of vehicles and parts with measurements such as pressure and temperature.
• Installation of Instrumentation harnesses.
• Fabrication and modification of fixtures, fittings and bespoke brackets.
• TIG/ MIG welding of various components.
• Using your knowledge of electrical systems and reading wiring diagrams to install measures for voltage, current and vehicle network connections.
• Supporting the sign-off of an Instrumented vehicle and applying your problem solving-skills to find and fix any issues which are detected.
• Recording relevant detail on our Job Cards so our installations are fully documented.
• Ensuring all jobs are completed within agreed timeframes and that a high levels of productivity and quality are maintained.
• Collaborating and supporting your colleagues in the delivery of our tasks
• Use your skills and experience to innovate and support the installation of new measures.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

• Mechanical and Electrical systems knowledge
• Applicants must be qualified to a minimum of Level 3 City & Guilds, NVQ or IMI and have at least 3 years’ experience in a relevant field.
• Experience of vehicle fitting.
• Good knowledge of whole vehicle systems and their associated safety standards.
• Light fabrication skills i.e., metal working/ welding.
• Communication skills.
• Flexibility to work at different locations, you may be asked to work on any West Midlands JLR site on a secondment basis.
• Flexibility to meet business needs e.g., Overtime and shifts.
• Ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision whilst taking personal responsibility and ownership for your actions and the quality of your work.
• Proven ability to learn new systems and processes and grow capability with training.
• Full driving licence

Desirable

• Previous knowledge or experience of Instrumentation.
• Knowledge of JLR EV systems would be an advantage.
• Knowledge of vehicle network technology would be an advantage.
• Experience of JLR engineering systems.
• Knowledge of prototype build phases.
