A chemist, analytical chemist, chemistry technician or materials chemist is urgently within a global R&D product development area to analytically use laboratory equipment and expertise across a range of projects and activities within product development to support the delivery of the commercial vision of a product in the R&D pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

• Planning, execution and reporting of experiments supporting product development activities guided by product developers within the team
• To hold lab expertise in operating the required machinery/testing capabilities in order to perform assigned tasks in the required time frames
• Prototype testing and characterization (e.g. physical, analytical) according to standard operating procedures and/or instructions from product developers
• To have an understanding of testing activities, methodologies, and equipment capabilities to carry out assigned duties to fulfil project need
• To have the technical understanding of workstreams within the science plan of a given project in order to deliver the assigned tasks within the required timescales and in line with product launch target dates
• Evaluation and interpretation of testing results and presenting conclusions in reports and presentations to the lead product developer and team
• Collaborate with subject matter experts, product developers and scientists across R&D to establish new methods for prototype characterization where needed
• Plan and facilitate product evaluations using sensory and consumer panels as well as subject matter experts, under guidance from product developers; report results and summarize key learnings for review with development team
• Facilitate prototyping and prototype testing through collaboration with other functions (e.g. Sensory Science, Compliance, Flavor Analytical Development Centre, Quality, Device Engineering, etc), and/or external laboratories; report results for review with development team
• Contribute with ideas for product design improvements and technical problem-solving where appropriate

Qualifications and Experience

• A degree e.g., chemistry or other science background materials etc
• Proficient in general laboratory tasks and procedures, such as solution preparation, handling chemicals and hazardous materials
• Ability to deliver against a portfolio of tasks within defined timescales
• Broad understanding of product testing approaches and data interpretation
• Full awareness of laboratory safety procedures.
• Interest or experience in product development.
• Problem-solving skills, analytical skills and attention to detail
• Must be methodical; have excellent and accurate record keeping skills
• Self-motivated, taking ownership of the role and adopting a disciplined approach to ensure accountabilities and deadlines are met.
• Skilled user of Word, PowerPoint and Excel
• Ability to travel on occasional basis, e.g. for manufacturing trials, supplier visits, training, team events,
