POSITION SUMMARY

Working within our laboratories at Sandwich, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the development of safe, sustainable, efficient and robust crystallization processes for active pharmaceutical ingredients. Your laboratory activities will enrich our fundamental and applied knowledge for each drug candidates, ultimately enabling the development of a commercial manufacturing process.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Carry out routine testing of material physico-chemical properties.
• Carry out solubility measurements using a variety of technologies.
• Ensure adequate supplies of lab equipment spares and consumables are available.
• Carry out regular equipment calibrations and checks, and co-ordinate external instrument maintenance.
• Support of technical initiatives that may involve the design, installation, repair, and maintenance of specialized laboratory equipment.
• Establish effective working relationships with Colleagues within the group and in wider, multi-disciplinary teams.
• Present their work clearly and concisely to stakeholders, both internally and externally, through written and verbal communications. Contribute to regulatory submission authoring as well as technology transfer documentation to research and commercial manufacturing sites.
• To keep an accurate up to date laboratory notebook including interpretation or results, conclusions and next steps.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

You will liaise with other Chemical Research and Development Colleagues including Process Engineers, Process Safety Chemists, Crystallisation Technologists, Pilot Plant facility staff, Analytical, Formulation and Manufacturing colleagues at Sandwich and other Global Pfizer sites. Externally you may have contact with other pharmaceutical companies, external consultants & contractors.

EDUCATION

You will have gained as a minimum an A-level or equivalent in a scientific discipline and have exposure to working in a research laboratories.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

• Works collaboratively with Colleagues to carry out experiments using automated lab equipment.
• Ability plan own work effectively and summarize results from a series of experiments.
• Ability to communicate results at team discussions and through clear written reports experimental write-ups.
• Ability to maintain an accurate scientific notebook.
• Good learning aptitude / ability to quickly learn new skills.
• Willingness to be hands on and take ownership and responsibility of assigned tasks.
• Good team player, organised, accurate, have strong documentation and good communication skills.
