Salary: Up to £95,000 Gross Per annum

The role reports to the Chief Business Officer and is a member of Innovate UK’s Executive Management Team (EMT). Reporting to the role will be the Head of Function for each of the teams assigned to the Health and Life Sciences sector in order to deliver Innovate UK’s Delivery Plan and define future strategic initiatives for the group.
The purpose of the role is to lead the development and delivery of Innovate UK’s strategy for accelerating UK economic growth and productivity for businesses within the Health and Life Sciences sector.

The EMT takes collective responsibility for strategy and performance of Innovate UK with each member of the EMT leading on a specific dimension of that strategy and performance. Within EMT, the Chief Business Officer leads on the growth of the following specific business sectors within the economy:

The Health and Life Sciences sector comprises Health and Medicines, Advanced Therapies, and Agri-food teams. The current sector portfolio is valued at £685 million.
The post holder will lead and influence Innovate UK’s work in Health and Medicines and Advanced Therapies. Key initiatives include:
The post holder will play a vital role in determining support to UK Agri-food businesses building on the UK Government Agri-Tech strategy and significant investments including:
o Four “Centres for Agricultural Innovation” to support advances across the agricultural supply chain. The four Centres are:
A Centre focussing on Agricultural datasets and sustainability metrics
o A Centre for Innovation Excellence in Livestock production
o A Centre for Applied Crop Science
o A Centre for Engineering and Precision Innovation
Support the Transforming Food Production ISCF Challenge
As life expectancy increases and the population rises, the demands across the entire AgriFood supply chain increase, so forcing it to adopt new technologies to improve efficiency and sustainability. The role holder will provide strategic leadership to ensure that investments are translated through to business benefit in areas such as crop production, livestock husbandry, food processing and manufacture and the enhancement of food quality.
