English Teacher London SE9 Monday to Friday, between 8.45am and 4pm £26,000 to £36,000 pro rata pa based on experience and qualifications Up to 33 hrs per week Term-time only, academic 22-23 and/or 23-24 Our client is an independent school specialising in providing a nurturing, alternative education for young people aged 11-19 who are disengaged from mainstream education, or those with additional needs. They are a small school with only 60 students and a friendly, family-based environment that supports some of London s most vulnerable young people to achieve outstanding outcomes when they were expected to achieve none. Working in groups of maximum of 10 young people, you will deliver English to 8 young people in Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 including GCSE literature and language, ESOL and functional skills. You will be a strong communicator with confidence and authority yet able to win the respect of London’s urban youth. You must have experience in leading teaching for groups of challenging young people from disaffected communities or with special needs. Our client has a maximum class size of 8 with a 1:4 ratio. They are a small team, family-based atmosphere with excellent opportunities to progress and take on more responsibility. Our client is equally interested in unqualified but experienced teaching staff who are seeking the next step into teaching, with access to fully funded teacher training. You must be willing to undertake a DBS/police check. Are you the right person for the job? Possession of a teaching qualification (Cert Ed) or equivalent or a firm commitment to obtain one A degree or appropriate qualification A Level 2 qualification in Maths and English or equivalent Have a good level of ICT skills, ideally including innovative use of interactive white boards Ability to teach a range of English course units including GCSE English Language and Literature Have knowledge of National Curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4, and of writing lesson plans, developing resources and assessing students’ work Experience in delivering student centred approach curriculum to students at various levels of learning The ability to devise exciting and stimulating projects to support student learning The ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve their potential Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills Proven organisational and administrative skills and an ability to work to deadlines The ability to think creatively and constructively Knowledge and/or competencies of health and safety as relevant to the post and a commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of learners and others Available now or in September Your role will include, but not be limited to: To teach students on GCSE English and Functional Skills Entry Level, Level 1 and 2 and ESOL courses to include scheduled lectures, demonstrations, remote teaching, tutorials, supervised on/off-site study and assessment To support existing staff in the development of the curriculum and new projects To undertake the necessary associated organisation, administration and other responsibilities, including arranging trips or opportunities to extend and enrich the curriculum, course publicity, arranging course review and evaluation and classroom observation and management To contribute fully as a team member to team meetings, staff development, preparation and educational support activities, assessment, classroom observation, moderation, planning and administration To maintain high levels of student retention, and achievement to support student progression Assist in further developing educational and community outreach activities To foster our enrichment ethos and support our students across all courses What can you expect in return?
