Estates Manager
The King’s School in Macclesfield is seeking an Estates Manager to manage one of the best and most recent educational facilities in the North West. You will report directly to the Director of Finance. You will need to develop strong and positive working relationship with staff. You will be responsible for all the operational elements of the school and its campus. Your team comprises of over 40 staff. You will line manage Maintenance Engineer, Estates Secretary, Caretakers, Head Groundsman, and Cleaning Manager. The Estates Department is subject to different pressures at various times of the year. At busy times, a high degree of teamwork and flexibility is needed. Good interpersonal skills are vital. Confidence and ability to work on your own initiative is important.
There is the requirement of Strategic Development and Project Management, which includes:
To contribute to the school’s estates strategy.
To provide adequate training, supervision and staff development for all employees within the Estates team and that all risk assessments and contractor safety checks are carried out.
To take responsibility as a project manager for all proposed and/or planned project works as approved by the Director of Finance. This will include the ability to develop, plan, cost and implement minor building projects internally and work with approved architects on any major projects taking the role as project manager as required. Particular attention will be required to be paid to regulatory requirements, compliance, quality and agreed specifications.
Ensuring that projects provide minimal disruption to the day to day operational schooling, meet the agreed timescales and are delivered on budget is of paramount importance.
There is also the requirement to:
Ensure the Health and Safety of the site, including fire safety and security of the estate.
Oversee the provision of utilities and Estates services.
Ensure a high standard of maintenance of the grounds and buildings.
Manage the operational matters of the department including external lettings and the minibus fleet
Carry out general duties
The post of Estates Manager involves working flexibly and is available as soon as possible. Core working times are likely to be Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.00 am and 5.00 pm with an unpaid lunch break (lunch is provided as a staff benefit during term-time). In addition, the post holder will be required to work reasonable additional hours as are necessary, as the demands of the job require, including some evenings and weekends. Work at evening and weekend events will, with prior agreement, attract an equivalent period of time off in lieu. The post holder will be required to maintain a code of confidentiality commensurate with the role.
The salary for this post will reflect the responsibilities and commensurate with the experience of the appointed candidate. The salary is likely to be in the region of £39,504 to £41,778. Flexible working, often beyond the parameters of the school day, including work in the school holidays and evenings will be necessary in fulfilling this role. This is a full-time year-round post. The school has a strong commitment to professional development and it is a condition of employment that all members of staff participate in any scheme of appraisal, review and professional development currently operating in the school.
