Head of Finance

My client, a leading UK FMCG business, are looking to recruit a Head of Finance to join their stunning head office in Liverpool.

Reporting into the Finance Director and working closely with the CFO, the Head of Finance will take complete ownership of the management reporting process, leading a team of c5, and working closely with the well established BI team.

The Head of Finance will play a crucial role in the delivery of high-quality financial reporting, and will in turn ensure the success of the long term strategic plan.

This is a newly created position, due to both internal movement, and an increased focus on accurate and timely reporting and analysis within the business. The successful candidate will have complete authority to shape the role as they fit, and build/develop the team around them.

Key responsibilities include:

• Support the Finance and Executive leadership teams in providing a high-quality financial accounting and reporting service and in increasing financial and cash awareness throughout the business.
• A strong advocate for adherence to financial policies and procedures, maintaining financial control and governance throughout the business.
• Lead a team engaged in in the provision of a strong accounting and financial control service, ensuring tight balance sheet control with all control accounts properly reconciled monthly.
• Provision of timely and accurate management and financial reports for all statutory and business entities, with variance analysis as required, adopting a culture of “no surprises”.
• Lead a finance team engaged in the preparation of financial analysis, building effective relationships with budget leads and management across the business.
• Drive overhead performance in accordance with strategic objectives, using initiative and adopting an innovative approach to cost reduction where appropriate.
• Work closely with peer group to ensure joined up reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
• Develop and deliver relevant and timely periodic and ad-hoc reporting and analysis sufficient to enable the management team to understand financial performance against key levers and KPIs.
• Pro-actively investigate variances in expected financial performance, whether positive or negative, to identify root cause and, as necessary lead in taking corrective action.
• Ad hoc project work, and other support for finance and the wider business as requested from time to time.

The ideal candidate will be:

• Qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA)
• Previous team management experience
• Experience working with BI/analytics/tech teams to enhance processes, as well as strong Excel skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to influence at a senior level
• Strong background in management accounting, FP&A, business partnering, analytics
