PositionDescription
Were expanding our team of Open Source Integration Engineers. Ifyou have a solid Linux foundation and an enthusiasm for technology,wed love you to join us. We develop, build, and run a cutting edgeBig Data platform for a meaningful and strategic client. Were heavyon automation, great hardware, a mix of on-premise and cloudplatforms and taking on steep learningcurves.

The teams focus is a shared ownershipand drive to achieve the clients goals. We aim for everyone to beinvolved in software integration, testing, deployment andoperations. We all have direct contact with our client on a dailybasis. The team can ask questions directly to ensure they buildwhat is really needed. If you are interested in Open Source,Kubernetes, rapid prototyping, regular demonstration of completedwork, creating sustainable systems, and thinking ahead but notovercomplicating for today, this will suit you. Specifically youwould be involved tasks such as the following,

GNU/Linux software customisation, configuration andintegration
Kubernetes Operators and Hadoopcustomisation, API integration and configuration with Ansible,Kustomize and Helm
Implementation of bespoke NiFiprocessors using Java and integration with commercial securitysoftware
Ansible automation of software, upgrades andLinux configuration
Robot Framework, Playwright andSelenium based test automation for post-build and post-deployhealth checks
Bug and technical debt triage, troubleshooting and resolution
Production environment changeback-porting to our git repository
Enhancement of ourTekton and Bamboo based build and continuous integrationprocesses
System performance analysis and improvement ofmultiple, high spec large clusters
Third line support ofproduction environments with our system administrators

Yourfuture duties andresponsibilities
You will be part of a team which is jointly responsible fordesigning, integrating, building, testing, maintenance and on-goingoperations of the production platform. Specifically you would beresponsible for,

Review, elaboration andaccurate estimation of new requirements with our ProductOwner
Estimation and commitment, as a team, to delivertested work every 2 weeks
Development of work followingstrict ways of working, standards and levels of quality
Regular presentation of progress and completed work to the team andthe customer
Stay up to date by following industrydevelopments and be active in the Open Source community
Adrive to meet your personal objectives which are aligned to thebusiness plan for the financial year
Investment in yourown skills development with support from the team and widerorganisation

Requiredqualifications to be successful in thisrole
We are recruiting at all levels of career experience and wouldconsider graduates with a science related degree (includingpractical computer programming experience) through to skilledsoftware integration and DevOps professionals.

Demonstrable experience in at least one of: Linux (e.g. RHEL,CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu)
Demonstrable experience in atleast one of: Python, Java, JavaScript, Rust, C or C++
Familiarity with the following core tools: git, ssh, Unix commandline, browsers, Bash

Desirable:
Linuxexperience as a deployment platform and day to day developmentenvironment e.g., can describe package management, networkingconfiguration, log files, environment variables
Kubernetes experience (e.g., OpenShift, Azure Kubernetes Service,Elastic Kubernetes Service)
Cloud API experience (e.g.,Terraform, Amazon Web Services, Azure)
Deep Linuxexperience e.g., can describe SELinux, chroot, ssh tunnelling,differences between Linux distributions
Experience ofstarting from scratch, and building on top of existingsystems
Web development and awareness of vulnerabilitiesand how to defend against them
Experience of test drivendevelopment and Automated testing of web applications
Networking familiarity e.g., can describe HTTP protocol,TCP/IP
Experience of Hadoop or distributedcomputation
Experience of automating softwaredeployment
Experience of network engineering includingswitches, taps and firewalls and pcap analysis
Awarenessof system and network security principles such as system hardening,log analysis or IDS/IPS

Security Clearance:Candidates must be a UK national and be SCclearable
