Network Design Specialist – NFV/Cloud

My client, a global telecoms operator is currently seeking an experience Design specialist (Network) to join their team on a permanent basis.

• As a Design Specialist you will be responsible for authoring capacity documents. Your input will be used in HLDs, LLD and also used to support projects delivering growth. Growing the information in order to give a complete picture across all technologies.
• As a Design Specialist you may be required to fill in the technical section(s) of an Idea Feasibility Document (IFD) as part of the Tempo Project Framework to enable prospective projects to understand technical and design impact.
• You will be a shadow/backup for other team members at certain times of the year to ensure that there are no single points of failure amongst my client’s design cover (please note this is not on-call or out of hours).
• You will provide ad-hoc consultancy to other teams and business units based on your specialist knowledge of my client’s services – this could be any stakeholder within the business.

You will attend and feedback on a series of standard meetings & forums including:

• Service Review Meetings
• Operational Review Meetings
• Service Improvement Plans
• Design Reviews (Internal & Vendor)
• Project Meetings
• Post Implementation Reviews
• You will provide to the wider team capacity information on a monthly (or agreed interval) basis to signal our service health.
• Liaise with vendors and suppliers as required to support our business

At times you may be asked to advise or assist with:

• Testing – to aide answering questions posed or to support the wider business
• Operational Support – to ensure the stability of our services

As a Design Specialist a balanced view is taken between experience and education/qualifications.

• Written Skills: As you will be responsible for authoring formal technical documentation, it is imperative that you are able to express your thoughts clearly and concisely and are thoughtful towards the types of audiences that will be reading your documentation
• Design Skills: to support Network Functions Virtualised (NFV) both within the team and across the Mobile Core directorate relating to my client’s Mobile Services using Cloud infrastructure. As the successful candidate you will have experience of Cloud technologies based on or either Openstack and VMware certified solutions. Extensive knowledge of X86 compute and Storage technologies as well as good understanding of IP network technologies.
• Supporting various Design discussions with technology 3rd party’s and internal teams – Security/Operations/Design
• Own outcome and actions from Design discussions through to delivery
• Document HL & LL Design
• Build and deploy agreed technical solutions
• Identify/support target operational process to support solution
• Work collaboratively with my client’s Core Ops and other technology teams to successfully deploy and operate solution
• Responsible for the security industry best practices for NFV onboarding of virtual machines and containers
• Understand, consult and evolve my client’s security policy for Cloud Native detection, enforcement and reporting
• Business acumen: You will be dealing with suppliers. The vendor management and procurement side of our business will rely on you to forecast usage for the year ahead and to provide a balanced opinion on capacity particularly during an RFP or Change Request procurement process
• Member of a professional body eg Institution of Engineering and Technology is a useful but not mandatory affiliation. This is a technical team of professional and specialist engineers within the telecoms sector and you will be expected to keep up-to-date with the industry using several methods such as vendor training, professional training, mandatory training, The Academy online.
