What we’re looking for:
Are you a dedicated and passionate Technology enthusiast with experience of AWS, Python and Cloud formation (or Terraform)?
Are you looking to work in the finance industry, but in a greenfield agile environment with the freedom to influence designs, technology and direction?
You will be instrumental in building out the Direct Line Group Core Cloud enabling services, governance controls and digital platforms, making use of Infrastructure as Code and automation to accelerate the journey. As part of that initiative you will help us move to cloud-native technologies and work with born in the cloud technology partners.

The Technology Engineering Tribe works across all the business and customer facing Tribes and is part of our Engineering Chapter. Our mission is, “Be awesome at building and running technology”. As a member of the cross-functional squad you will be contributing towards team objectives and key results for our business delivering platforms with the customer at the heart of its focus.
DLG Cloud Engineering squads are helping to build the next generation enabling services that will run the DLG of the future. They deliver in an agile self-empowered manner across several focused areas (platform, digital, compliance and project) with ties to operational aspects / SRE who are seen as a trusted partner and collaborator by those functions.
DLG is committed to employee growth and moving between squads and focused delivery is encouraged to enable engineers to build diverse cloud skills and have exposure to new technologies.
What you’ll be doing:
Providing your expertise to build core services to be consumed by Projects (e.g. landing zones, Security controls, governance automation & Core networking) to cloud best practice.
Building digital shared services and platforms using serverless technologies working with the business stakeholders to ensure delivery
Implementing core controls and security compliance as code with auto remediation to non-compliant events.
Liaising with projects to help them consume services in an appropriate and governed manner
Working with internal and external suppliers to design and build the configuration management, release, deployment and operations cycle to meet business requirements.
Amplifying feedback loops – and increase the frequency – through the automation
Working with Architecture, Security and Other key teams to create pattern based best practice approaches to delivery.
Identifying and implementing opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in the development and continuous deployment of applications.
Direct Line Group has recently moved to a new Agile way of working and are looking for senior engineers to take on the role of Chapter Lead where they can practise their craft as well as mentor and support a squad of engineers with a servant leadership approach and mindset. If this is of interest to you please make sure to give examples of any people management experience, especially within an agile organisation, that you have in your application.
What you’ll need:
Terraform or Cloud formation and Python or Java
Excellent AWS skills – both depth and breadth of services
Clear and opinionated understanding of cloud (AWS) best practice
Understanding of security and governance in the Cloud using native services
Usage and implementation of CI/CD pipelines to deliver continuous improvement
