Waste Contracts Lead Officer
An excellent opportunity has arisen for maternity leave cover over a minimum of 12 months to undertake a key contractual role at Buckinghamshire Council. You’ll use your proven track record of managing contracts and knowledge of the waste industry to help realise the optimum outcomes and performance of our major waste contracts. Your ability on contractual negotiations with our suppliers will ensure that our Waste Management service will continue to provide effective and efficient services that will help both commissioning new service contracts, as well as maintaining existing waste contracts.
The Waste Management Disposal team is a fast paced and dynamic environment, but also one with a supportive and collaborative team ethic, providing a core service to Buckinghamshire’s residents. Made up of two areas, Waste Commissioning and Waste Contracts, the team have key roles in both procuring major contracts and then managing them on a day-to-day basis.
About the role
In this role you’ll be within the Waste Contracts side of the team where you will be required to take a lead role in both managing and monitoring the performance of one or more of the Council’s key waste treatment/ disposal contracts and to maximise the potential value that exists across these contracts. Contracts which you could be taking a lead role in include the high-profile Energy from Waste contract, the customer facing Household Recycling Centre contract or the Green, Food, Bulky and Wood waste contract. You’ll provide expert waste management advice to a wide range of stakeholders internally and externally, for example colleagues, customers, councillors and senior officers.

Educated to degree level or equivalent, you’ll have a strong background in a waste contract management and or commissioning / procurement environment, together with a proven ability to contribute to service planning, improvements, and development activity.
Naturally, you’ll have excellent interpersonal, persuasion, and negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, communicating changes in policy and strategies, as well as provide expert advice, guidance, and support on complex issues.
You’ll come to us with experience of project management, you will demonstrate initiative and the ability to manage complex plans, prioritise and co-ordinate resources to deliver priorities within time constraints.
Please also note that access to your own vehicle is an essential requirement for the role as there will be a need to travel across the county to various sites.
The role is offered as a minimum 12-month Contract with possible extension.
