Provide Process / Chemical Engineering expertise to support the safe and efficient running of an upper tier COMAH gas storage facility.
Provide expertise into plant modifications, plant upgrades and trouble-shooting of existing processes
Provide appropriate expertise for ‘Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies and LOPA reviews at Holford to ensure that the highest level of safety is maintained on top-tier COMAH site.
Assess all new processes and operating procedures to ensure that the changes to plant processes or procedures do not affect the ongoing safe operation of the plant.
Deliver the operational performance of Holford in both routine and non-routine activities that ensure the engineering health, integrity and performance of the assets in a safe, efficient and sustainable manner.
To work effectively as part of a wider team that delivers the site objectives
The postholder’s key activities are:
Responsible for solving processing and operational problems with existing processes and procedures.
Ensuring that all Process information is correct by; managing the preparation/modification of drawings, specifications, calculations, process descriptions, equipment listings.
Expert contribution to risk assessment including HAZOP studies for the health and safety of company staff as well as the wider community.
To assist the HSEQ and Storage Operations Manager with continued compliance of legislation, especially COMAH. IEC 61508/11 and IPC, and to provide appropriate information to the HSE and EA.
Optimise processes under all normal and abnormal operating conditions by applying mass, momentum and heat transfer principles
to processes to maximise the benefit to Holford, ensuring their safe, efficient and cost effective introduction and through commissioning & training.
To be responsible for all process engineering aspects of projects, including selection of equipment, materials of construction, instrumentation etc.
The post holder’s responsibilities include:
To be the lead technical resource responsible for processes involved with transporting gas from 8 underground storage caverns through the Gas Processing Plant and into the UK’s National transmission System.
Provision of ‘expert’ advice in all plant areas
Expert input to ‘Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies and Safety Integrity Levels (SIL) meetings at Holford to ensure that the highest level of safety is maintained on top-tier COMAH site
Expert input to plant modifications assessment from process perspective provide all necessary documentation (P&ID, PFD, Layouts, Calculations etc.) that satisfy internal standards.
Preparation of specifications and subsequent management of a number of contracts and projects
Support delivery of routine and non-routine maintenance and project activities in their areas of specialism.
Implementing initiatives to improve the management of site safety, contributing to the achievement of the company safety Objectives
Qualifications
Formal education / professional experience required for job (e.g. academic degree, years of professional experience, ) Chartered Engineer (or be working toward it)
Masters/Bachelor degree in Chemical or Industrial Process background or NVQ Level 4 in an engineering discipline with knowledge, skills and experience in chemical or industrial processes;
To assist the Lead Engineer (EC&I) in the application and approval of site personnel to ‘Functional Safety’ engineering aspects of a top tier COMAH site (IEC 61508/61511).
Ability to work effectively in a high performing team consistently
Understanding of health and safety and environmental legislation and standards; (ideally qualified to IOSH or NEBOSH.)
Understanding of the health, safety and environmental aspects of the management of external service providers activities.
