Job Title: Commercial Analyst Reference Number 77077 This Commercial Analyst will report to the Flexibility Markets Developer and will work within our DSO directorate based in our London office. Context In April 2023, UK Power Networks established an independent Distribution System Operator (DSO) directorate. The DSO releases additional network capacity to promote the Net Zero transition at lowest cost. By making smart use of data, technology and distributed flexibility, we have committed to defer more than £400m of network investment costs within the next five years. We are bringing in new skills, people and systems for a team that is technology, data and customer-focused . Importantly, the DSO will behave transparently and make independent investment decisions in the best interests of consumers. Job Purpose The Commercial Analyst will develop and support the efficient procurement and onboarding of flexibility services from energy suppliers, distributed generation, business energy users and aggregators, to release network capacity for additional renewable generation, electric vehicles and heat pumps. Nature and Scope The Flexibility Markets team has seven (and growing) accomplished professionals with a range of skills in customer engagement, energy markets, data analytics and project management. The area of flexibility markets is fast evolving and so the jobholder will be in a unique position to manage and enhance the customer journey for flexibility procurement. We ask that you are someone who can collaborate across different teams within UK Power Networks and also represent UK Power Networks externally. You will work with data to track and improve the efficiency and customer experience associated with how UK Power Networks buys flexibility. Principal Accountabilities You will manage daily relationships with around 50 flexibility providers from start ups to large energy suppliers, including through: Ensuring that their issues are dealt with and use of their feedback to shape UK Power Networks’ flexibility processes and products, You will improve the end-to-end customer journey to deliver great customer satisfaction. Use data-driven insights to remove pain points and improve the experience for flexibility providers and UK Power Networks, including through: Develop new procurement processes to deliver flexibility tenders in shorter timescales, Run analyses to identify gaps in service delivery to inform our flexibility procurement strategy, Introduce quality controls to reduce the risk of errors and ensuring the team has a single source of truth for all flexibility data, Use tools like Excel or Python to automate repeated processes, You will forecast and report progress against team targets to guide outstanding performance Grow the flexible capacity that is available to UK Power Networks to deliver over £400m of benefits, including through: Help flexibility providers to understand the standard contract and onboarding process, and chasing progress against this; Use software tools to check which part of the network assets are connected to; Work with flexibility providers to monitor delivery against agreed milestones; Collaborate with internal UK Power Networks teams, including Procurement and ensure we maintain momentum through the customer journey Ensure flexibility providers are paid fairly including through: Facilitate, reporting and forecasting payments to flexibility providers of £1-10m pa Assess the performance of flexibility providers, against pre-agreed rules; Work with the UK Power Networks finance team to ensure invoices are paid correctly and on time; Resolve flexibility provider queries when they occur; Maintain a record of all payments. Qualifications Essential Degree in a quantitative discipline or experience in an analytical role You will have collaboration and report writing skills Demonstrated experience working with customers Analytical and problem-solving skills You will have Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word experience Familiarity with analysis tools, such as Power BI Desirable Interest in energy and flexibility markets specifically Experience dealing with business customers Experience in project management and reporting performance against set targets Awareness of the impact of low carbon technologies are having on the distribution network Familiarity with cost-benefit analysis Health & Safety Responsibilities Managers and supervisors carry both legal and company responsibilities for ensuring the health and safety of their employees, those under their control and those who might be affected by the work undertaken, i.e. public, visitors and employees of other organisations.
