Role Title: Graduate Credit Risk Broker (Politics/History Graduate)

Summary

My client is a leading specialist credit and political risk insurance broker with clients that include first-tier global investment banks, development finance institutions, commodity traders and corporates and we have offices in London, Belgium, Singapore, New York, and California.

Credit (or “non-payment”) insurance is purchased by banks, corporates and traders looking to cover the risk of a counterparty failing to make payment under a loan or other type of credit exposure. The main drivers for such cover include regulatory capital relief, balance sheet optimisation and risk mitigation.

While the credit insurance market has been well-established over the last 20 years, more structured and creative applications of non-payment insurance are being developed in response to changing regulation and to meet the evolving needs of clients from new sectors, including asset managers and investment funds.

My client are a high-achieving Lloyd’s broker, and takes its corporate social responsibility seriously, including its charity work. Since 2015 they have joined forces with charities and social enterprises across 21 countries and supported more than 90 causes.

Job Purpose:

With continued growth and expansion of the Company, to work closely within our London/Global Broking team, to facilitate and negotiate the placing of political and credit risk insurance policies.

The role will offer an opportunity to work collaboratively with and learn from our team of experienced Brokers. Due to the company’s smaller size in comparison to its market peers, the role will also offer an excellent opportunity to develop strong relationships with other areas of the business by working closely with the Management team, our global offices, and our clients. Our client is committed to continuous learning and would support studying towards the Chartered Insurance qualification alongside sector and asset class specific training. Further voluntary opportunities may include assisting with the charitable work that we carry out.

Key Responsibilities:

• Working with the Broking team to facilitate and negotiate the placing of credit and political risk insurance policies
• Regular interactions with our clients and underwriters.
• Participate in the biweekly Broker update.
• Day to Day written and oral interaction with clients and Underwriters.
• Learn about Policy Maintenance through premium adjustments and ongoing client interaction.
• Travel to meet with clients who are domiciled outside of the UK.
• Involvement in the claims process alongside our claims and legal department.

Skills/Qualifications:

• An interest in Geopolitics and be cognisant of current developments in global markets.
• Good knowledge of the insurance market and potential changes/threats to this market.
• Good negotiation skills.
• A lateral thinker and able use initiative to seek solutions to challenges.
• Empathetic and enjoys working in a highly collaborative environment.
• Enjoys analysing risks and able to present these effectively to underwriters.
• Some awareness/understanding of the regulatory environment that surrounds the industry.
