This is a hands-on and multifaceted role within a skilled and supportive central team of data analysts, scientists, and engineers who are highly visible to senior management, with exposure to the entire Group.
We’re looking for someone with a passion for data science and engineering to join our innovative and collaborative team! The successful candidate will work across all stages of the data science life cycle from problem identification to designing and implementing applications that utilise data analytics and machine learning techniques. These will support delivery of our audit plan, provide insights, and drive innovation within Group Audit & Conduct Investigations.

What will you have the opportunity to do?
• Lead multiple data science and application development projects concurrently with great autonomy. Programming tasks will include working on the design, implementation, and delivery of applications, designing and creating data models and data pipelines.
• Lead other team members and stakeholders whilst acting as a project manager and applying agile project management and best practices in software development.
• Work collaboratively across the audit function to identify innovative opportunities to apply data science techniques for business monitoring, audit planning, and audit delivery.
• Communicate on technical areas in plain, simple language that is easy to understand.
• Acquire sufficient levels of auditing and business knowledge so that all deliveries are fit for end users purpose, positively impact the quality of the department s assurance work, and improve capabilities.
• Answer queries and provide support to end users for existing utilities.
Required skills/experience:
• You have a working experience leading application development and data science projects, involving techniques such as graph theory, machine learning, or natural language processing.
• Experience at managing peers or more junior colleagues on projects, holding colleagues accountable, ensuring the quality and timeliness of the project delivery, and fostering a culture of collaboration.
• A demonstrable competence in managing stakeholders, communicate in a way that a lay audience can understand.
• Ability to support colleague development through providing coaching and feedback as appropriate.
• You are proficient with mainstream data science programming languages such as Python or R, and the use of data analytics tools such as SQL, PowerBI or SAS. Previous experience in web application development (Django, Bootstrap, jQuery) is an advantage.
• You can demonstrate the ability to productionise data science models for non-technical users using these programming languages while applying best practices in software development and ensuring that key data science, engineering, and programming concepts are applied.
• You are comfortable with designing and implementing data pipelines using batch data transfers.
• Experience at using Google Cloud Platform platforms is required.
• You can review complex codes and are familiar with version control.
• Previous financial services, audit or risk experience is an advantage.
