The Database Services Team Leader will lead a team of SQL Database Administrators. This is a hands-on technical role that covers database administration, troubleshooting environments, slow query optimisation, performance debugging, proactively identifying opportunities for performance improvements, and documenting best practices.

Alongside excellent communication skills the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

• Designing solutions, implementing complex projects, meeting project deadlines, meeting challenges with a positive attitude, and work with a strong sense of service ownership.
• Build and configure new databases in the Azure cloud
• Managed ITSM ticket queues
• Provide ticket updates to service delivery and project stakeholders
• Become the SQL SME for technical escalations
• Liaise with vendors and service providers to support production escalations
• Troubleshoot performance issues
• Identifying opportunities to improve database performance
• Identify and optimise slow queries
• General database administration
• Engage with architects and developers to deliver technical designs and provide best practice guidance
• Collaborating day-to-day with engineers, developers, and project teams
• Implement new solutions to meet business requirements
• Create and maintain related diagrams, documentation, and procedures
• Conduct full SQL stack diagnostics to help determine the root cause of problems

Required Skills

• Experience leading a Database Services Team
• Expert knowledge in Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL services
• Extensive experience Microsoft SQL SSRS, SSIS, and SSAS
• Extensive experience with Azure SQL Databases
• Experience with Azure Data Factory
• Experience with Azure Cosmos DB
• Extensive SQL troubleshooting skills
• Experience with RedGate monitor or similar monitoring tools
