Barnsley Council are seeking a Finance Apprentice to join the team based in Barnsley. You will be working on a 4 years Fixed Term contract (37 hours per week) and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £21,575 – £21,968. The Finance Apprentice role: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Finance Apprentice supporting the Council to deliver its new Council Plan and Barnsley 2030 Strategy. Whilst the job profile outlines a generic role, this opportunity will be within the Finance Business Unit suit candidates aspiring to work within a financial environment. Working within the Finance Business Unit, the successful applicant will play a pivotal role in ensuring the Director of Finance s responsibilities are fulfilled and that front line services receive an efficient, effective and market leading financial support service. The Council s recently adopted People Strategy acts to support the successful candidate to adopt the culture and behaviours of a modern, agile, healthy, engaged, skilled and innovative workforce. Your role in our journey Working across the Finance Business Unit, the Finance Apprentice will provide excellent customer service and high quality, accurate financial support across a range of financial functions, contributing towards ensuring that the Council s core financial systems are accurate, up to date and maintained and that financial processing of information is completed in a timely manner to support the delivery of the Council s core priorities and support Directorates to deliver efficient and effective services. As Finance Apprentice you will gain experience across a range of financial functions including budget setting and financial accounts, capital and revenue financial management, operational financial functions including payroll & pensions, accounts payable and transactional finance processing, income and debt collection. What you ll need The successful candidate will be an ambitious individual seeking to progress their career in accountancy and will have achieved good grades in English and Maths at GCSE level as well as two A levels or equivalent BTEC National qualifications (260 UCAS points) in line with the job profile. Adopting an enthusiastic, positive attitude to problem solving, the successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and able to adapt their approach, behaviours and actions to address the tasks in hand. Being able to work as part of a core team and flexible in their approach to meet the demands of the business unit and wider council. In return the Council will, as part of the apprenticeship programme the council will invest in your training and development to enable you to undertake a professional finance and accounting qualification through the nationally recognised AAT/CIPFA qualification programme.
