Financial Accountant

This position would suit someone part-qualified with 2-5 years experience as an Accounts Assistant looking to step up in their career, or an Associate (practice), Financial Accountant, or Management Accountant.

Financial Accountant – Responsibilities:

The position will cover a broad area of responsibilities.

1. Helping to support accounts assistants in all branches.
2. Responsibility for the preparation of the monthly Management Accounts pack covering all companies in the group, including:
   1. Consolidated and individual company P&Ls and Balance Sheets.
   2. Undertaking end-of-month procedures i.e., running of Trial Balance, Profit/Loss and Balance Sheet.
   3. Prepare and enter month end journals.
   4. Reconciliation of all accounts monthly.
   5. Supervise and assist where necessary with data entry onto Sage accounting system.
   6. Presentation of the management accounts pack to the CFO/FC monthly and further stakeholders as required.
3. Responsibility for management of the month end timetable and ensuring timeliness of the month end work.
4. Preparation (with Head of Systems) of monthly/weekly KPIs.
5. Ensuring that systems are up to date on a timely basis between major accounting deadlines. For instance, customer/supplier invoices and payments made/received are entered onto the system in a reasonable timeframe.
6. In conjunction with the FC; preparation and analysis of budgets and forecasts. Distribute budgets as appropriate.
7. Authorise supplier runs and the associated payments as agreed with FC.
8. Help to ensure that appropriate systems, processes, and internal controls are implemented and maintained in all the relevant areas of Finance. This will include utilising systems knowledge (including our internal system Office Manager) to improve efficiency of processes. Conducting internal audits as appropriate and ensuring processes are appropriately documented.
9. Preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns.
10. Submission of other recurring tasks such as Office of National Statistics submissions etc.
11. Liaison with auditors (and other external parties) and preparation of required schedules. This includes the yearly audit of the financial statements and other more ad hoc requests such as Account Receivable audits, reviews by lenders etc.
12. Control of invoice discounting facility.
13. Control of asset backed finance. Including all areas from correctly recording the contracts initially to notification of disposals to the lenders.
14. Special projects and ad hoc tasks as required. This could be from across the business but primarily will involve assisting the CFO/FC/Head of Systems or other senior staff.
15. Any further one off or recurring tasks reasonably expected of the Financial Accountant position.

Financial Accountant – Person Specification:

1. ACCA/CIMA/ACA part-qualified with previous professional services or management reporting experience.
2. Diligent and hard working.
3. Strong problem-solving skills, with good judgement, logical decision making, and a hands-on approach.
4. Computer literate with excellent excel skills and
5. Experience with modern accounting systems, especially Sage Intacct.
