As a result of increased demand and widening capability, we are looking for a Materials in Defence Consultant to join our Material Technology and Research practice based in Bristol, UK. The Role As a Materials in Defence Consultant you will deliver multi-disciplinary support to complex programmes and research initiatives, providing domain knowledge and materials science expertise to our customers within Defence. You will: Enable our clients to research, design, manufacture and manage capability through the product lifecycle, drawing on materials science as required; Provide justification and assurance to support a range of stakeholder decisions; Undertake research to underpin new approaches, including the adoption of mature approaches in a different context, and the utilisation and management of capability and technologies. Your responsibilities (in recognition of competency frameworks) will include: Product Lead Consultancy: Practising new ways of working by supporting and defining requirements for developing digital transformation, to manage materials through the product lifecycle. This can include information repositories, data bases and auto reporting for customers, supported by tailored consultancy activities. Leadership: Sharing subject matter expert knowledge on materials science, co-ordinating activities, pursuing opportunities and addressing issues. Capability Development?: Aligning material consultancy to customer demand and collaborating with other consultancy services, including academia, to provide coherent delivery across Defence. Training and Development: Advancing career development following an accredited career framework, such as the IOM3 Chartership Competency Framework. This may involve attendance to conferences and tailored training as and when required. Business Development: Supporting technical bids and presenting to prospective customers; collaborating with the wider business to identify need for new capability across our customer portfolio. Technical Assurance: Providing technical guidance of materials science themes and supporting reviews to ensure project deliverables are of a high quality and meet customers expectations. Client Demand: Working with government, industry and academia to support the management of critical infrastructure, while understanding possible material impacts governed by legislation and regulation and wider social and economic considerations. Vision and Strategy: Undertaking activities within the Material Technology and Research practice, and by collaboration with other practices, to meet the wider vision and strategy of tpgroup. Why you? Essential Skills and Experience You will be educated to MSc and BSc (or equivalent) relevant to the following areas of expertise: Material Selection for Design, Manufacture, Repair and Disposal: The understanding of material properties and performance throughout a product lifecycle including design options, costs and alternatives. Material Characterisation: Material characterisation methods used to interpret test and service data provided by our clients, which provide an overview of material properties and performance at a discrete point in the product lifecycle. Material Modelling: Tools such as digital twins, evaluation and testing, simulation and synthetic environments, which enable the modelling of a product continuously throughout its life. You will be chartered or working towards chartership election. You will have a positive, flexible and self-motivated attitude, and be keen to develop yourself and others within the team. Desirable Skills and Experience: You will have obtained, or be close to obtaining, a PhD (or equivalent) in a materials science related field of expertise. You will have experience working in the Defence sector. In addition to essential areas of expertise, you will have a wider appreciation for materials science in Defence. Knowledge of energetic materials, and their application in Defence, would be advantageous. Why us? Essentials to work with us Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK. Candidates will also need to either hold a current SC clearance or be willing and eligible to undergo a Security Clearance check (SC level) upon starting their employment with the company. To gain SC clearance you will normally need at least 5 years UK residency
