Role: Merchant Support Manager – Landscaping Materials – Building Materials

Salary: £25,000 to £32,000 dependent on experience, plus vehicle.

Ultimately we are looking for a Merchant Support Manager to work for our client, a leading independent supplier of landscaping materials who sell through the distribution channels – builders merchants and landscaping centres.

The right candidate will be required to visit builders merchants, landscaping centres and other stockists, contractors etc – ‘selling the dream’ visually and verbally. So, this merchandiser role needs an outgoing personality and credibility. Well suited to an existing merchant support person, merchandiser or someone with a customer service, sales background within the builders merchants or construction sales background. As stated, this position would suit someone who wants to take their first step towards a Regional Sales Representative, External Sales, Area Sales type role. This position isn’t targeted – whilst some sales skills are required – it is more of a promotional role providing product knowledge to both potential customers and the merchants selling your product. In addition to this you will at times work alongside the area sales team potentially managing the smaller accounts – this will provide you with great experience for the future too.
This position is a regional role and will require travel throughout the region and could therefore involve a number of nights away per week. Hotel accommodation will obviously be made available to you.
For the majority of the time you’ll use a ‘normal’ van provided by the company. In addition to this, on some occassions you may be required to use a promotional vehicle, with drop sides and tail, extending to 8m long with displays, TV screen, demo space etc. A quality display facility.
On a typical day, you’ll visit sites which stock this companies products. Whilst at sites you will check the displays are stocked. Provide product training to the staff at the merchants who sell your products and generally give any advice to any customers who may be there at the time. As stated, some of your time will also involve key account management with some of the smaller accounts. It’s a varied role!
Full training on the products will be given. These products are well respected in the industry.
