The role:As the Planning Policy Manager, you will lead the development and delivery of the council’s planning policy work, ensuring that it is aligned with the council’s priorities and supports the creation of sustainable, well-designed and vibrant communities.You will manage a busy and ambitious team of policy planners, overseeing the production of a local plan and other planning policy documents, including working jointly with colleagues in neighbouring authorities.You will also support the preparation of neighbourhood plans, as well as a range of other projects relating to the growth of the boroughKey responsibilities of the role will include:

• Managing the development and delivery of planning policy work, ensuring it is aligned with the council’s priorities and the requirements of national planning policy
• Providing advice and guidance to senior officers and members on planning policy matters
• Performing a lead role in the production of the joint local plan, including evidence base collection and overseeing public consultation and examination stages
• Developing and delivering other planning policy documents, such as supplementary planning documents and guidance notes
• Managing a team of policy, S106 monitoring and heritage/conservation officers, providing leadership, performance management support and guidance as required
• Representing the council at external meetings and events, including with key stakeholders and partner organisations

To be considered for this role, you will need to have:

• Significant experience of working in a planning policy role, ideally within a local authority context
• A detailed understanding of the planning policy framework, including national policy and guidance
• Experience of managing planning policy projects, including the production of Local Plans
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence a range of stakeholders
• Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team

Working arrangements:

• Full time 37 hours per week preferred, but part time at three to four days per week considered
• Hybrid working; three days in the office, two remote preferred, but can consider three days remote
