AWE is currently recruiting for a Principal Category Manager to join our growing team. We play a crucial role in nuclear defence, providing a critical role in UK’s national deterrent programme. We are a team of remarkable people achieving extraordinary things.
As a Principal Category Manager, you will be a commercial leader providing expertise and professional insight in to one of the UK’s largest and most strategic infrastructure investments. In collaboration with industry & government, you will be part of the programme leadership team to deliver a multi-billion-pound investment programme over the next 15 years.
Salary: from £57,540 to £85,000 (depending on your suitability and level of experience)
Location: Reading / Winnersh / Basingstoke area

“This job role is suitable for hybrid working, which is an informal, non-contractual and voluntary arrangement, blending a balance of attendance in the workplace (your permanent duty station) and working from home as a personal choice. The successful candidate is required to carry out all their duties from a UK location and cannot do so from an overseas location at any time.”
Reporting to Head of Strategic Sourcing you will lead a small team of commercial specialists to deliver six core objectives:
Work in partnership with industry and UK government agencies to develop long term category strategy for the nuclear construction industry
Work with supply chain partners and programme office to introduce modern methods of construction, e.g. modular building
Identify market trends and risks that could impede infrastructure programme and deliver mitigation strategies
Work with programme office to identify future demand and route to market via government frameworks or procurements
Analysis supply chain value chain (sub-contractors etc) and develop long term transformation programmes
We would love to hear from individuals with the following attributes:
Experienced in construction or manufacturing supply chain management (either from a procurement or contract management perspective)
Experience of category management and what value it adds to commercial delivery
Keen strategic analysis & problem-solving skills
Keen influencing and stakeholder management skills (e.g. persuading AWE board to introduce new construction methods)
Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
