Our client is a world class manufacturer who are at the forefront of technology and advanced manufacturing supplying high value components to the aerospace, defence, and industrial markets, seeking a Process Development Engineer, who can improve manufacturing processes to support new product launch activities.

The Process Development Engineer will ensure that the manufacturing processes operate robustly and demonstrate repeatability, verified through visual process control methods. Control checks introduced will ensure that any deviation in process performance is identified so that corrective actions can be introduced.

As a Process Development Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Reviewing manufacturing operations to understand the process variables that need to be controlled to ensure that the process runs consistently.
• Identifying relevant process variables implementing methods of visual control to ensure process compliance.
• Working with the Quality function to develop PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) for the processes that are under your jurisdiction of responsibility.
• Ensuring process controls and measures are identified, implemented, and monitored so that process capability can be continuously monitored and developed.
• Performing Process Capability studies to provide an indication of the ability of the process to consistently provide output, which is within required specifications, highlighting improvements.
• Driving Quality and Cost & Delivery (QCD) and scrap reduction.
• Lean processes including 5s and CI activities and initiatives.
• Ensure all processes, operation instructions and procedures are fully documented and implemented.
• Working closely with the Maintenance function to ensure that the uptime of the equipment is optimised.
• Owning the introduction of any new capital equipment being installed and commissioned.

As a Process Development Engineer, you will require the following skills and experience:

• Manufacturing experience being able to identify process variations and implement improvements.
• Ability to critically appraise product designs to improve manufacturability, creating process documentation.
• Working knowledge of PFMEA, QCD, SOP, OEE, BOM and HS&E.
• Ability to expose and solve problems in a manufacturing environment, especially within NPI and small complex batch production where variations are critical.
• Varying manufacturing processes – bonding, resin, plating, chemical treatment, etching, moulding, etc
• A strong understanding of lean principles (Six Sigma, Ishikawa) and problem-solving skills 8D, 5Y.
• Tenacious and curious in finding problems and creative in delivering solutions.
• Able to communicate and engage from shop floor to board level.
