Reagent Development Scientist

TEC Partners are working with an exciting molecular diagnostics company in Cambridge that are working on the Point-Of-Care (POC) product development. They are entering an exciting stage of growth and are therefore on the lookout for a talented scientist to join the team.

They are looking for a molecular biology scientist to join the team as a Reagent Development Scientist and be responsible for the development and optimisation of reagents, buffers, and custom consumables. Supporting the wider biology team, you would also mentor junior scientists and collaborate across disciplines.

The role will involve establishing and conducting studies for assay sensitivity and specificity, developing and optimising complex reagent systems, and developing testing procedures for testing reagent performance over time. As a development scientist, you would work as an integral part of a closely-knit team, as well as independently, and will deliver essential contributions towards this novel technology.

Your background and technical skills:

• PhD in molecular biology, biotechnology, or other closely related field
• 3+ years of industrial experience working in a molecular biology lab
• Significant experience in molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and qRT-PCR
• Bacterial culture experience
• Strong knowledge of assay development and buffer/reagent optimisation, performance validation and testing (PCR-based assays)
• Experimental design and execution experience

Project management experience:

• Some experience leading small projects and mentoring junior scientists
• Experience working under QMS

It would be great if you have:

• IVD industry experience
• Experience working under ISO 13485 is highly desirable
• Knowledge or hands-on experience working with microfluidics platforms
• Freeze drying and lyophilisation experience
