Department overview:

The Analytical Chemistry department is a small team responsible for analysing liquid and solid formulations, to make sure they have been prepared correctly, using various analytical techniques.

Main responsibilities:

• Preparing accurate solutions using analytical balances, electronic pipettes and mixing apparatus.
• Operating UPLC, UHPLC and GC systems and a UV/Visible spectrophotometer, using Empower 3 and Softmax Pro GxP software.
• Processing data and communicating results in a timely fashion.
• Investigating any out of specification or unexpected results.
• Attending and contributing to departmental and company meetings (TEAMS and in-person).
• Undertaking tasks required for the smooth operation of the laboratory, including housekeeping, stocktakes, equipment checks, ordering, archiving data.
• Conducting duties in a safe manner and in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice

Skills and experience:

The ideal candidate will be a critical thinker who is organised, has an eye for detail, strong communication skills and enjoys working in a team.

Essential:

• Educated to degree level in Chemistry or a chemical sciences subject with demonstratable experience of working in a laboratory environment.
• The role is varied and can be high paced, so the right candidate will have good time management skills and should be able to work flexibly and accurately under pressure.
• Good mathematical skills and be confident working with electronic systems.
• Comfortable working in a regulated environment where standard procedures must be strictly followed and documented.

Desirable:

• Microsoft Word and Excel are frequently used for writing reports and documenting analyses, including calculating concentrations, and therefore previous experience of using Microsoft Office is advantageous.
• Operating analytical instruments and processing data using electronic systems.
• Good understanding of liquid and gas chromatography techniques.
• Experience of writing formal scientific reports.
