The role

As a Senior Buyer, you will have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This role is part of our Mission Systems business unit which forms a critical, and growing part of Babcock’s Marine Sector. As a trusted provider for global defence & security. Our core capabilities of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), Communications and Critical Assets (C&CA) and Launch and Handling (L&H). We have various projects relating to each division of Mission Systems, such as Future Submarines and also our recent contract award for the operation and management of SkyNet, the British Military’s satellite communications system.

Day to day, you will you will be responsible for driving performance and value opportunities on our international programmes managing a diverse supply chain in our international markets. Moreover, you will make a positive impact and take responsibility for your part in making a difference daily. You will work collaboratively with the wider Procurement and Supply Chain team to achieve common objectives. You will be brave and a champion of high performance, challenging the unacceptable and willing to speak up when we need to do better.

Essential experience of the Senior Buyer,

• Procurement function backgrounds within Defence, Marine, Engineering or Satellite Communications (highly desirable)
• Analytical skills to analyse data and make decisions
• Be able to read and understand technical drawings and ability to communicate complex requirements to/from supply chain is an advantage
• Ability to establish strong relationships with key stakeholders across the business
• Self-motivated with a flexible approach to workload

This position is thirty seven hours per week. Hybrid working arrangement, between one and three days a week on-site with the remaining to be completed from home. Must be able to fulfil occasional travel requirements.

Qualifications for the Senior Buyer,

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
• Membership of a relevant professional body is preferred, e.g. the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply at a Level Five or above, or working towards

The successful candidate must be able to achieve (SC) security clearance level for this role.
