Job description The Team This an exciting time for digital and technology in HMRC. The Chief Data Office (CDO) plays a key role in building a professional, efficient and engaged data centric organisation, to drive HMRC s data strategy to be a high performing, data-driven organisation. Working to a G7 Principal Data Analyst, you will deliver data quality profiling, analysis and reporting to ensure that data risks are properly understood and managed. The ideal candidate As the ideal candidate you will be able to employ analytical skills and experience in using a range of analytical tools and software to manipulate large and complex datasets. These datasets will include taxpayer, government, public and commercial information. You will have a strong understanding of data quality analysis, profiling and reporting and be able to identify data issues, processes and behaviours that are considered a risk and non-compliant within legislative and data quality industry standards. You will have experience of regular reporting, dashboards and scorecards to provide understanding, insights and confidence to managers that the organisations data is fit for purpose and properly protected across HMRC. You will provide support to stakeholders to ensure that data risks are effectively identified, managed and mitigated. You will be comfortable engaging with a both technical and non-technical audiences to explain how these data products have been developed and how to use them. Person specification As a Data Analyst you will perform regular data quality profiling, reporting and analysis responsibilities across HMRC’s data. You will assist in data quality investigations, and work with stakeholders to identify impacts and diagnosing potential root causes in order to help the organisation prioritise and focus resources to target what is most important. You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with data and technical architects, data engineers and key stakeholders on specific data quality projects, as well as supporting business areas in understanding, improving and reporting on their data quality. Essential Criteria: skills and experience: Have experience and knowledge within medium to large organisations applying the following skills: Using data analysis tools and coding languages to apply data analysis techniques to large datasets – Analysis and synthesis Use data visualisation tools to report on metrics and trends – Data visualisation Good IT and mathematical skills with ability to learn new systems and ways of working – IT and mathematics Develop and build data assurance and cleansing rules and identify recommendations for improvement – Data quality assurance, validation and linkage Desirable criteria: skills and experience: We re not looking for, nor do we expect candidates to meet all the criteria, so don t let that put you off applying. Where knowledge or experience gaps exist, we d expect you to bring your existing transferable analytical skills and demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop the other skills. Previous experience working on data quality analysis Relatable degree or other relevant experience Problem solving, creative thinking and decision-making skills Knowledge of DAMA or similar industry recognised qualification Working with personal customer data, with a basic knowledge of GDPR Knowledge of data governance and data management standards and guidelines Knowledge of metadata tooling and technologies Basic understanding of data architecture and data modelling concepts Understanding of Master Data Management Understanding of statistical methods and data analysis, and Awareness of big data
