Senior Mechanical Engineer AWE is currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to work within the Engineering Trials Delivery Unit of our Trials and Test delivery area, supporting environmental testing through design of experimental equipment, and research and provision of environmental testing capabilities. The successful candidate will work on a variety of challenging design and capability projects to meet the needs of engineering Trials, as well the delivery unit’s research and development goals. What will you be responsible for? Leading or supporting on the delivery design projects, including requirements capture, concept and detailed designs, design substantiation, operational documentation and producing validation evidence for mechanical engineering solutions relating to environmental testing Producing and delivering high-quality technical reports and presentations Identifying and supporting opportunities for cost savings, efficiency savings and business improvement Leading or supporting in managing partnerships Producing high quality scoping documents, plans and estimates for future activities. Maintaining a technical knowledge of environmental testing capabilities, developments in the field and areas of interest. Aiding the development of junior engineers through formal and informal, technical mentoring What will you need to be considered? Proven experience of delivering projects with a consideration for quality, time, and cost A strong technical mechanical engineering basis, including: skills in CAD, engineering drawings, design substantiation and legislation Strong communication skills (both written and oral) Strong organisational and problem-solving skills Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Ideally you will have: Strong skills in relevant CAD software and product lifecycle management packages (e.g. NX, Teamcenter) Engineering analysis skills, experience with stress analysis via calculations and finite element analysis Experience in working in an environmental testing environment with exposure to vibration/shock testing, acceleration testing or others Ideally, candidates will have either a degree in a relevant STEM discipline, or hold a HNC/HND or NVQ Level 3 qualification supported by relevant experience. Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. Due to the nature of this role, we’d need the successful candidate to be able to work on site, in Aldermaston.
