Working Hours: 3 days in office a week, Mon – Fri 9:30 – 5:30 – (negotiable)

Job Description:

The Syndicate Manager is responsible for the development and maintenance of a high performing team focused on the delivery of a first class level of service to the Membership.

The Syndicate Manager is expected to:

• Train, motivate and develop an engaged and effective team to deliver a professional, efficient and market leading claims and advisory service to P&I and Defence Club Members.
• Act as an ambassador for the Clubs within the Membership and the maritime community, evidencing profile and credibility within the market. Work closely with the Club Management and across all functions to ensure strategic Club level targets are met.

Main Responsibilities:

• The provision of dynamic and effective leadership to the team and the delivery of first class service. Responsibility for the training, career development and performance management of the syndicate team members. Looking for creative opportunities for team members to flourish within the department’s remit. The allocation of work and day to day oversight of the syndicate including management of workloads. Demonstrating a thorough understanding of the issues affecting the Clubs, including finances and regulatory matters, and the workings of the IG. Exemplifying a high level of collaboration across all P&I and Defence business functions and other Thomas Miller businesses. Displaying effective planning for Member contact and delivery against those plans ensuring it is aligned with Club objectives and meets budgetary requirements.

Reporting responsibilities:

The Syndicate Manager will report regularly to the Chief Claims Officer concerning:

• Syndicate workload, including highlighting any new, significant or developing claims.
• People matters including training requirements and resourcing issues.
• Member/broker feedback and issues.
• Marketing and business development initiatives.

Skills:

The Syndicate Manager will demonstrate the following:

• Motivational and inspirational team leadership skills. Significant previous claims handling experience. Excellent interpersonal and people management skills. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to operate at a strategic level. Strong analytical and organisational skills. Key account management experience.
