My client manufactures high technology tools and systems which are used across a range of industries ranging from medical to automotive and computing.

I have an exciting opportunity for a technical author to join the team in Bristol!

This is a well-established organisation with a global presence that can offer a reliable position for years to come in a supportive environment.

They have a low turnover of staff which is testament to their team first mindset.

You will be someone with a high level of skill in technical writing that can understand product function and performance in detail. You will need to have good proofreading skills.

You should have the ability to research and analyse technical information.

You will need to uphold the standard of documentation and corporate style.

You should understand manufacturing, design practices and processes.

Ideally you will have presented information for training, installation, and maintenance purposes.

You should have high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.

Within this role you will be working to deadlines, so you should be able to prioritise your workload and ensure it is delivered on time.

As a Technical Author, you will:

Research and analyse complex technical information.

Produce, develop and maintain technical documentation.

Collaborate with staff to fully understand and clarify technical queries.

Produce / provide any images or illustrations needed.

Liaise with SMEs to generate documentation for project launches and customer support.

Translate materials into different languages.

Demonstrate quality technical writing capability.

Have an excellent technical comprehension, with the ability to quickly understand the function and performance of complex products and systems.

Education/Qualifications:

• Commercial experience as a technical author
• Competent with authoring software such as Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office
• Ideally a background in semiconductor, electro-mechanical or scientific sector (experience or document authoring for scientific instrumentation is highly desirable, not essential.)
• A technical authoring qualification (ISTC, NVQ, Diploma, etc.) degree or equivalent is an advantage.

Personal Qualities:

• You should have great interpersonal skills to converse easily with skilled staff.
• Advanced written and spoken communication skills.
• A team mindset is important in this environment.
• Excellent problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
• Happy to travel on occasion.
