Volunteer Mentor Childrens Charity Southend On Sea Flexible hours/days Unpaid Position Could you volunteer 3 hours per week to inspire and empower young women in your community? Our client is an independent, local charity working with and for children, young people and the communities of Southend and surrounding Essex areas. The program matches trained volunteer mentors with young women aged 9-14 to support them to be their best. Over the initial 19-month pilot, the organisation has matched 270 young women to adult mentors and was awarded Family & Youth Work Project of the Year at the Youth Matters Awards 2022. The team believe in building and developing their workforce, to be able to provide the best possible service to the people they work with. The organisation are an Investors in People accredited employer and has won the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services. You are required to meet up with a young person on a regular basis, with an initial commitment of one session per week for approximately 3 hours. What will your role look like? Volunteer Mentors regularly meet with their assigned young person and work together to identify achievable goals to focus on. These goals empower the young person, build their resilience and enable them to lead fulfilling lives Mentoring sessions also offer an informal environment for the young person to discuss anything which may be worrying them, from family and personal relationships to lifestyle and education The mentor also helps the young person to access a variety of activities and services whilst trying new things What can you expect in return?
